Wrap It Up

Tonight, on my walk home, I could smell fresh pizza. I haven't eaten actual Italian pizza in ages, but I really craved something pizza-ish. The summer heat had me longing for a refreshing dish, too. The consequence of this combined with what my fridge had in store is this in-between wraps and pizza and salad dish. Read this blog and you'll find my instructions, or rather a summary of what I did. My aim is not for you to recreate it and follow the recipe closely. Instead, I'm hoping to inspire you to go more with your gut, to play with your ingredients and to create dishes that you never had before. All it takes, is a little trust, a little confidence, and a little creativity in the kitchen.

Beach Treasures or Trash

Even my earliest memories of beach walks always involve my sisters and me being mesmerized by little shells and rocks we found and collected. The Little Mermaid was one of our favorite movies (we still know the songs by heart) and of course, we identified with the beautiful little mermaid collecting the treasures she found on sunken ships. We imagined the spirits of mermaids in the shells and interpreted the shapes of rocks according to what they reminded us of, a camera for instance. This year on summer vacation on the Greek island of Crete however, our experience was a little different. Even walking along some of the quietest beaches of the island, what you find are not just shells and rocks anymore. What you find is often trash. Our holiday inspired me to devote my blog post to our beautiful blue planet and shed light on the huge plastic problem (which is obviously not limited to Greece). There is hope on the horizon though! Read this week’s blog to find out about ways to reuse and most importantly avoid plastic altogether.

They either blame those conscious of their need for solitude for isolating themselves, or they are incapable of spending a day without company. But solitude is being alone. It means being one with all. In this week’s blog, I’m speaking about the need for solitude and why it’s important for your well-being.

Jiwa Damai – My Journey to the Peaceful Soul

Between February and March, I spent about a month at Jiwa Damai, a Permaculture Garden and Retreat Center close to Ubud in Bali. I came for lessons of Permaculture, of the Earth. What I got were lessons of the Earth, of the Self, of My Self, of the connectedness between them all through the Earth and the heart. This is a long read. It’s a very personal one, too. That is why I hesitated to share it with the world for the past three months. This article weaves together a lot of my journal entries - thoughts and feelings - from that very healing and special time for me. After all, I feel that Annette Messager was right when she said “Being an artist means forever healing your own wounds and at the same time endlessly exposing them.” So there goes this week’s blog - a little piece of my heart, a big part of my healing.
